Uisce CreationsTM Herstory
Uisce Creations is comprised of two partners at the moment - me (Allison Obershaw) and my mother (Susan Obershaw). The idea came to me while I was surfing the web one day, looking at other people's web sites of arts & crafts that they were selling - I had always been interested in having my own store one day, selling tea, arts & crafts and witchy items, and started thinking - why not now? Why not the internet?
Then came the issue of what to call us - what are we about? My mother came up with "No Dangles" - which is quite funny if you think about it (no men allowed!) - and then Uisce Creations just sort of hit me, and we ended up sticking with it. One of my friends said it was sort of mom & pop mixed with corporate - sounds good to me. If you've read this far, I'm sure you're wondering what "Uisce" means, how it's pronounced and its significance.
Initially the company was going to be my mother, my aunt and me (you're always welcome to join us, Pat!), and since we're all Irish, and all water signs, it made perfect sense. "Uisce Beatha" is the Gaelic terminology for "water of life" - also the term for "whiskey"! (Not that I agree that the water of life is indeed whiskey!) Uisce is pronounced ish-key, and Beatha is ba-ha. Our logo, if you noticed, is comprised of the Pisces symbol (me) and the Cancer symbol (my mother and my aunt, when she decides to join us!).
So that's where we are now. We have a lot planned for the future, new types of items and hopefully a craft show here or there. Meanwhile, it occurred to me that my friends and family also have a lot to offer, so why not spotlight their work as well? You can read about our contributors in the Artisan Corner, if they ever get off their lazy bums and contribute like they know they want to! As we continue to grow as a company, we are always open to ideas and suggestions that you might have - even if you'd just like to comment on the web site! Please take some time to explore our site.
PS. If you're curious about where TruLily TM stems from, it's again another euphemism for my mother and me - my name means "little truthful one" and hers means "lily". Astrologik Art TM came from a contest where people chimed in their two cents (personally I liked Astro Flings! the best) and PureKrap is just me being stupid. =)
...Who's behind the shtick? Stay tuned...
